Ganderbal: 3,500 students from 33 colleges & 4 universities participate in sports festival | KNO

Ganderbal, Sep 02 (KNO): The second edition of the university and college-level sports festival concluded here at the Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE). The five-day event started on August 29 in which four universities and 33 colleges of the valley took part with the participation of 3,500 students. The festival marked a remarkable fusion of 10 events comprising Football (Men), Volleyball (Men & Women), Basketball (Men), Handball (Men), Kho-Kho (Women), Table-Tennis (Women), Tug-of-War (Men & Women) and a cultural programme Rouff, the organisers told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). They said GCOPE bagged 7 trophies in Handball (Men), Basketball (Men), Volleyball (Women), Table-Tennis (Women), Kho-Kho (Women), Tug-of-war (Men) and Cultural Programme Rouff. In Football (men), GDC Pattan emerged victorious. In Tug-of-war (Women), GDC Ganderbal was declared conquerors. In Football (Men), GDC Pattan bagged the 1st position, while Government Degree College Ganderbal and Government Degree College Baramulla got 2nd and 3rd positions. In Volleyball (Men), GDC Bijbhera got 3rd position. In Handball (Men), GCOPE Ganderbal got 1st, while Government Degree College Baramulla and Government Degree College Pulwama got 2nd and 3rd positions. In Basketball (Men), Government College of Physical Education Gadoora Ganderbal got 1st, while Government Degree College Baramulla and Government Degree College Ganderbal got 2nd and 3rd positions. In Tug-of-War (Men), GCOPE Ganderbal got 1st, GDC Ganderbal secured 2nd and Government Degree College Tral bagged 3rd position. In Volleyball (Women), Government College of Physical Education Gadoora Ganderbal got 1st, Women’s College M A Road Srinagar got 2nd and AS College Srinagar bagged 3rd position. In Table-Tennis (Women), GCOPE got 1st, while Government College of Engineering & Technology and GDC Pulwama got 2nd and 3rd positions. In Kho-Kho (Women), GCOPE Ganderbal bagged 1st, Women’s College M A Road Srinagar got 2nd and Government Degree College Sumbal bagged 3rd positions. In Tug-of-War (Women), GDC Ganderbal acquired 1st, while GCOPE Ganderbal and GDC Women’s Zakura got 2nd and 3rd positions. Earlier, in the cultural programme Rouff, GCOPE Ganderbal bagged 1st position, Government Degree College Hajin got 2nd while the 3rd position was shared by Government Degree College Pattan and Government Women’s College MA Road Srinagar. Closing-cum-price distribution ceremony was held at the college campus. Nuzhat Ishfaq, Chairperson DDC Ganderbal, was the chief guest on the occasion. Additional District Development Commissioner, Chief Education Officer, Chief Planning Officer, District Treasury Officer and ARTO of District Ganderbal were the guests of honour. Moreover, the Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Kashmir, Principal Degree College Ganderbal, Principal Women’s College M A Road and Principal GDC Women’s Sopore were among the dignitaries presented with the Guest of Honour award. Media Coordinator of the Department of YSS Azhar Hajini along with TV journalist Iqra Akhoon conducted proceedings of the glittering valedictory ceremony of the festival. The event witnessed other dignitaries of the Department of YS&S and various other departments of District Ganderbal. Chairperson, DDC Ganderbal distributed the prizes among the winners. The 10 Winners, 10 Runners-up and 10 Hardliner teams were awarded cash prizes (1st – Rs 10,000, 2nd – Rs 7,000, 3rd – Rs 3,000; in Table-Tennis 1st – Rs 5000, 2nd – Rs 3,000, 3rd – Rs 2,000) and trophies accordingly. The Sports Festival 2023 (Edition 2nd) was systematised to provide a platform to the youth of J&K to nurture their talent and steer their energy in a productive and expectant path, the organisers said—(KNO)
